Discover virtual entrepreneurship by building a career using skills you already have.

I decided earlier this year to add to my skill sets, and I took Universal Accounting Center's (UAC)Professional Bookkeeper and QuickBooks Pro Specialist home-study courses. I received certification on both courses, and I was very happy with their program. I found the instructor, Allen Bostrom was excellent. He was easy to follow and went at a good pace. The courses provide hands-on training for various companies, reporting samples and excellent follow-up (from an assigned coach), if you had any questions. The best part is that you can refresh your skills at any time, with the cds they provide. UAC held a seminar in my area last winter, and after listening to what they had to say, I was convinced that this would be an investment for me.

I was curious if anyone else has taken any of UAC's courses?

I have not taken their course but am registered for their newsletter. Can you give a price range of what it costs for the program you took?
Hi Collette,

I paid $1,680 and that included: four Professional Bookkeeping Modules (4 dvds per Module); two QuickBooks Pro Modules (also 4 dvds per Module); Accounting and Marketing support for one year; several practice sets; a business assessment guide; half a dozen or so binders containing a hardcopy of the dvd material and exercises; Marketing Disk and Financing a Small Business Disk.

HI Cecilia! I have been a bookkeeper for over 20 years, from general ledger by hand to Quick Books. I purchased the Universal Accounting Course last year, and although I have not completed it due to personal and time issues, I am very happy with the parts I have completed. I also enjoy the newsletter, which provides a lot of great information.

As Allen Bostrom tells you in the beginning, much of this is review for people who have been doing general ledger bookkeeping, and CPA's don't really learn the basics that are necessary to be a good entrepreneur and virtual bookkeeper.

It is indeed a good investment.
Hi Toni! Thanks for your reply. I am glad that someone else is aware of UAC's courses. I am contemplating taking their Tax Courses soon. The more knowledge the better, right? :-)

I know this post is quite late considering the topic was from October 2008, but I happen to notice mention of courses from Universal Accounting. I am in the process of doing that now. Does anyone what completed their program have any comments regarding the effectiveness and their success? I'd be interested.
