I want to make sure that I am billing my clients appropriately.
Is there any particular software that is made for tracking hours worked by a VA?

I look forward to your input.

Thanks,
Max

Hi Max,

I use ClientSpot which includes some additional features.

Hi Max,
I use Quickbooks. You can usually get it free and is a great resource. You can set up your clients and send bills to them by email, which is one feature I always use. But there are so many ways to track expenses, how much you have made from one particular client, all sorts of way to track invoices and many other things. I actually have certification in Quickbooks and to me, it has been one of the most valuable resources that I use daily. You can keep up with your banking, produce statements for your CPA, and the ability to run many reports. They also have tutorials to get you up to speed and it is very easy to use. Check it out and let me know what you think. Make it a great day!

You made reference to getting Quickbooks for free. How do you do that and is it the full=featured professional version?
Hi Max:

We are doing a promotion for a free trial with FreshBooks right now.

I use myhours.com to track my time.
I've used quite a few, but absolutely love MyHours and it's free. The interface is very user friendly and there are a few little tricks that I enjoy. I like that it's web-based and if you start the timer you can still close the window or log-out and the timer keeps going until your next log-in. To change clients or tasks, I enter the current data and it immediately stops the timer for the previous task I was working on. The reports generated are very clean and I attach those to client billing. I also export my time data to Excel regularly for back-up in case the site goes down when I need the data. The site does go down occasionally towards month-end as I think everyone finishes up their billings.

I work as a sub-contract for 2 firms and they have me setup to view their projects which is available in the paid version of MyHours. I don't even invoice 1 firm as she works exclusively off my entry reports. My colleague wrote 3-part series on her blog explaining how to use. Check it out
Max, as a disclaimer, I am not trying to self-promote but there is a fantastic package out there that not only tracks your time and billing and does your accounting, but manages all of your projects' notes, documents, phone calls and email as well. It's highly customizable and a very productive software. It's called Time Matters and is owned by LexisNexis who is a major player in legal research. Typically, it has been used in the legal industry, but there is a business and an accounting series. I use the business series in my firm. The disclaimer part is that I am a Certified Independent Consultant (CIC) on this product and have been for many years. It's somewhat pricey, about $350 for one user ($520 with a one year maintenance plan) but, IMHO, very worth the money. Check it out at http://law.lexisnexis.com/time-matters.
I'm a little late in responding to this, but I love time tracker. It cost me $59 for a one time license but I can track my time between more than one client at a time. It's my favorite by far!
I use jsportal.com. It's really easy to use and it doesn't cost anything. You can also set your customers up with a userid and password so that they can check the status of projects. If you have projects that you have assigned other VA's it will let you register them under you so that you can check their progress. It also does invoicing and allows you to attach any communication you've had with the customer regarding the project.
