Katherine,

I've found the very best way to get great clients is to get out in person to network. Start building relationships with people, finding out what their specific needs are, and then providing a specific solution. Talk to everyone you know - family, friends, neighbors - about what you're doing. You may be surprised to find out that someone knows someone else who needs your services.

You can also read some tips at my blog post.

Wising you much success!

thank you sue, I will check it out. :)
Personally, I have had the most success marketing myself online. By building relationships with people, being authentic and genuine, and offering solutions to my target market's problems - I have built my business up to the point where I am now looking to add a few subcontractors to my company. For me, I have no desire to have local clients. I've had a couple when I first started out, and they were nothing but problems. My virtual clients are so much more fun.
So for me local networking doesn't do much to build my business. However, if you get the opportunity to attend an event outside of your area that you know your market will be at, definitely do that too. It's a great way to work on relationships offline and then you can continue them online to develop more clients.

Best of luck to you.
Hi Crystal,

I have VA experience as a subcontractor. Perhaps we can discuss if my skills match your needs.

Thank you so much for the tips, I will try them.
In the mean time to get some experience and bring some cash in, I am willing to subcontract to get my feet wet and learn a few things. You mentioned looking for subcontractors, I am willing if you are? Let me know. Here is my website to look at.
Thanks again.

Research is my best advice. Start following people from the industry you'd like to focus on. Join some of their networks or forums. Look at their blogs and make notes.
