How can I answer phones for a client in california from NJ?

Hi all,
Please help me!!! I just got my first job offer to answer phones and make appointments, I'm so excited! My only problem is I'm in NJ and she's all the way in CA how can I set up a phone system? Is there a way to have her calls forwarded to me. One other thing because I'm just starting out I need to do this the least expensive way possible lol. Any ideas??!
Thanks,
Roxie

Hi Roxie. Check with your client and see if she can forward calls to you. She may want to just give our your number as a secondary number for clients to call. Do you have a cell phone with unlimited calls? Do you use Skype or Google Voice? Those may be less expensive options. Sue
I do have skype and will check out google voice thanks so much!!!
Hi Roxie, Sue's suggestions were excellent. I was going to suggest the same to you, I've had clients forward their phone line to me for a specific time period. I've also set up a backup line to take rsvp's or detail info. If you have a toll-free line, you can add an extension and have calls placed in that mailbox or extension for answering with the client's name. (please note: calls to the toll free number may have a cost to you which you could pass on to your client)

Good luck Roxie!

JJ
Thanks JJ those are wonderful suggestions I really appreciate your help!
Roxie you have gotten some great suggests but ResourcefulMe will like to add one more. If it is in yours or the Client's budget, look at getting a Virtual PBX or Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system. Just google or bing Virtual PBX or Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system for Virtual Assistants/Small business owners and you will see how much is out there for as low as $10.00 per month and includes a 800 number if you eant that as well. A couple come to mind - evoice.com or kall8.com. The latter's enhanced services cater to exactly what you are looking for and you do not need to purchase any additional new telephone equipment. Maybe just a headset You sign up for an account, choose your 800 number especially since you are calling way across the country, select the plan that will give you the minutes you require. They start with 300 minutes per month. Another option is to have your Client purchase an online number and subscription from Skype and have the calls that are received at that number simply forwarded to your number and you answer it there at your home office. I hope all of these options did not confuse you or make things worse.
Hey all,
I wanted to thank everyone for their help...I have gotten so much wonderful information I've passed some of it along to my client and I'll wait to see what she decides!!!
