Which platform do you use?

If you use both, where do you spend most of your time? Which types of projects do you do on each platform?

Any wildly geek Linux users out there (besides me) ?

Was it an intentional choice, or just what you had?

I'm always curious about who chooses what computer to spend their time on, especially when talking to virtual workers who spend a whole lotta that computer time.

And to start the ball rolling, Sue and I are both, plus.

I have two Macs: the world's oldest PowerMac (free to the first person willing to pick it up; it still works) and a 5-year-old iBook. I'm still converting to the world of Mac, but my next computer will be a brand new MacBook, because I love what I'm seeing.

Since having a Windows/Microsoft machine around helps with client interaction, and because Sue's not as good with speaking other languages (that was a joke) she'll be getting a brand new Dell laptop running Windows 7.

I have a Linux box (Red Hat Fedora) which I'm getting rid of, but I'd love to have a little netbook with some variant of UNIX on it (of course, Mac OSX is already UNIX which is why they named it that.)

Sue does most of our typing, Excel-ing, transcription, etc. I do most of the graphic work, and audio and video editing. It makes our OS split sensible, though I still have to learn more about iMovie and Mac audio editing tools.

I come from a command line background; worked with computers since before the days of graphics. So I'm comfortable typing code, mucking about with geek stuff. A UNIX/Linux box, a Mac, a PC; I don't care. A good fast machine with a nice monitor and keyboard make me happy.
Hello Joel - I grew up on a PC and even worked for one of those large PC corporations where the mention of a Mac drew gasps and cold stares. About two years ago, I took a Photoshop course and was forced to use my first Mac. After about two weeks on the Mac, I was converted and am now the proud owner of two MACs: the iMac (21.5" display) and MacBook.

I still have a Sony VAIO that sits in the corner collecting dust, it's pretty (pink) but not as fun, efficient, or reliable as my Mac's. I think it was VISTA that started causing my PC headaches. The VAIO came preloaded with VISTA, just after it was released, and it was painfully slow.

Agree with you 100% though, a good fast machine with the right display and keyboard makes all the difference.
The only real pain I felt when I was unceremoniously thrust into the world of Mac a month ago (house sitting in Vancouver, BC and my Sony Vaio dumped so I was given [gift!] a G4 iBook) was that it didn't have Photoshop on it.

That's easily resolved ;)
My first computer was an Apple II, (yes, I'm that old) and had a few Apple machines over the years. I've used and enjoyed Linux for my bioinformatics work, but I switched to a PC in 2005 when I became a Virtual Assistant, since that's what my clients were using. A couple months ago, I couldn't stand it anymore and bought myself a MacBook Pro. (Eat your heart out, Joel!)
Ooh. Which size? Brag about the RAM and peripherals and stuff. I'm in sponge mode and wanna hear it all.

My first computer was a modified IBM Selectric typewriter connected to the mainframe at SDSU, in 1975. I'm that old. But the first machine I owned was a PC with no hard drive and a monochrome monitor, back in, um, 1983 or 1984.

My phone is 10 times the computer that was.
I didn't go wild - 17 inch, 2.66 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB hard drive.

I used to turn on the Apple II, write a program to list prime numbers, turn the machine off, and have to rewrite the program the next day cuz there was no hard OR disk drive - LOL!
