This category has been sorely neglected. If you haven't already, please use this thread to introduce yourself to the community. I know your profile page has lots of information about each of you virtual assistants. But I thought it might be fun in this introductions category to share a personal tidbit.

Here's mine: I'm Sue Canfield, mother of Fiona who will be 6 at the end of March. We homeschool and play 'office' together a lot. She makes me smile every day. :)

What kind of music do you like? Joel's a huge music fan!
Yes to Paul McCartney and the Beatles especially. Joel plays the bass. Too bad you don't live close by. Here's some of Joel's music.

I find your introduction of yourself very interesting especially when you said "I am a very social person but I also keep to myself in the sense that I don't do well with workplace politics. I like to do my job to the best of my ability and be as professional as I can be." I understand exactly how you feel. Office politics can wear away at an individual without you even knowing it and eventually you go to work because you have to and not because you still love what you do or the environment within which you have to get your job done.
Hi Julie:
I have had the same experience as you for the last ten years. So when I say I understand I really do. I have not seen the movie Office Space but I will sure look for it and take a look at it.
Michelle
Hi Julie and Michelle!
Both of you are SO right! I started my company so that I don't have to feel chained to my desk. I LOVE what I do, just not always the enviroment. I am just starting out so I still have to keep my full time job, but hope that I can build it enough to quit. I just want to encourage everyone to do what's in there heart :). The other reason I started my own is because we (my husband and I) are looking to start a family very soon, and I won't be able to afford my "job" if I have to pay for daycare. What better than earning an income doing what I love and be here for my child!

I have seen and Love that movie (Office Space)!!

Anyway I can encourage someone, I'm here!
Hi All:

My name is Michelle. I have worked in middle management since 1991. From 1991-1999 I managed a national organization then from 2000-2010 I worked to support Executive level professionals and their departments/organizations in nonprofit and for profit organizations. I have a very high work ethic and really shy away from office politics but I believe in being a team player. I believe you can be a team player without getting dragged into the organizational politics of divide and conquer. I don't have any kids and I have given up trying. People tell me I can adopt but I refuse to do so for personal reasons (I was not adopted so it has nothing to do with that) unless it is someone I am with and they have kids.

In the last ten years I have not been able to find stable employment. The last long term job I had ended was March 2004 - October 2006. I have done a lot of temp work since then but I have always wanted to work from home and when the opportunity came last year I took it. The process of starting my own business has been therapeutic for me. I have come to realize that because I am flexible and adaptable to work environments I have spent 19 years gaining experience in and developing a lot of office managerial and administrative skills but in several different for profit and non profit industries. This has created a challenge for me in terms of finding a niche industry to work in as far as my business is concerned. My micro start-up business offers Executive Office Administration, HR and Client, Membership and Customer Relations Management services virtually. I am still trying to refine my website. So if you visit it and have problems please let me know.
Hi Julie:
I use to think that I was less of a human when I did not success in the children department but after looking at several television programs including Oprah and watching how some people subtly complain about kids being a nusaunce or burden to them I cam to realize and appreciate the opportunity before me. Since then I longer complain or feel like life has dealt me a hard blow.
Hello. My name is Rita Lynch and I live in Naples, Florida, with my husband and children. I was interested in becoming a virtual assistant but hadn't pursued it. Then I was laid off from my full-time job. That gave me the incentive I needed to get started!
Hello fello VAs! My name is Michele Randolph. I started my VA biz in July 2007 after having my hours drastically cut from an insurance/investment office job. A dear friend suggested maybe I could do some work for him from home and my childhood dream became a reality - you see, I always loved to play 'office' even though both parents were factory workers - and me walking through the office supply section of any store was like a kid in a candy store - and still is! My wonderful hubby of 25 years and I have two sons; 21 year old Bart who is halfway through a 6-year term with the Air Force working as a computer communications programmer for the Air Force Weather Agency, and 17 year old Nathan who is a HS senior preparing to attend the local college for computer animation and design - I don't believe anyone wonders where they found their love of computers!
Hello to all of you!

My name is Marta and I have been a VA for just over 2 years now and what a journey it has been! No kidds but I do have a furry 4-footed "kid" (see my profile pic :)!) that keeps me company and reminds me it's time to get off the computer.

Being a VA has provided me the opportunity to help out aging family members and that was a big motivation for me to start working from home.

Hobbies: Love surfing the net, hiking, my beautiful Oregon Coast, reading, TV/Movies, can't live with out music playing and like taking my doggie to the park to play and run.

~Marta
