Discover virtual entrepreneurship by building a career using skills you already have.

This category has been sorely neglected. If you haven't already, please use this thread to introduce yourself to the community. I know your profile page has lots of information about each of you virtual assistants. But I thought it might be fun in this introductions category to share a personal tidbit.

Here's mine: I'm Sue Canfield, mother of Fiona who will be 6 at the end of March. We homeschool and play 'office' together a lot. She makes me smile every day. :)

Hi, my name is Charity Van Vleet. I currently own two small businesses - one is Eagle Eye Web Services (http://www.eagleeyewebservices.com), dedicated to providing Virtual Assistance, Business Consulting and Website Consulting to business owners. I also own a financial business as a District Leader with Primerica Financial Services where I help individuals, families, and small businesses with all manner of financial matters. Along with that I'm a single mother to a 3 year old daughter and a part-time college student working toward a Paralegal degree so I can add Paralegal services to my Virtual Assisting.

I suppose Virtual Assistance started for me in 2003. I was laid off from my job and began offering my services at $10 per hour to Mary Kay consultants, usually at the Director level. Eventually I moved away from the area and gave up my clients but I think that primed me for being a Virtual Assistant. I launched my business a little further in 2007 and began using the internet to find more clients. I was strictly doing it on a part-time basis at that point and mostly project work that I could fit around my other life obligations. In 2010 I decided to focus on some additional services and include business and website consulting as niches for my business. I have found in the last ten years, it can be very daunting and difficult for a small business owner to not only create a business, get it running, and make it profitable but also to do the same thing with a website. So part of my focus is finding those small businesses and helping them find and utilize the tools that will make them most successful. I've had great success with this business model not to mention loving what I'm doing! There's not much that's more rewarding that a grateful business owner and knowing you helped them reach their goals.

I look forward to getting to know all of you better.

Sincerely,

Charity Van Vleet
Eagle Eye Web Services
My name is Michelle Colvin and I am the owner of MLC Business Solutions. I started my VA business in 2008 and have loved every minute of it. I provide a wide array of administrative services as well as social media. I am currently working as a subcontractor but also have my own clients. In addition, I volunteer my services to a great online network, that I’m sure many of you know of: VAnetworking.com. It’s great feeling to give back to those who help you in your business. I am the VAcommentator Team Leader at VAnetworking. As a VAcommentator we help promote VAnetworking and in return you get free advertising for your business. So if any of you are interested just let me know and I can get you all set up.

I look forward to getting to know all of you here.
Hi everyone! My name is Karen. I am a registered nurse by profession, but I have been working as a virtual assistant for more than a year now (while also working as a nurse). I've started my VA business last March of this year. Being a VA is one of the best things that I'm so thankful of, and has opened a whole new world for me. I specialize in social media, and it has become a passion of mine. Back then when I didn't even know the existence of VAs, I was addicted to social networking and didn't realize I could make a career out of it. I also have a growing passion for teaching virtual assistants most especially the newbies, although I still have a lot of things to learn from those VAs who have been around for years. I have been trained as a social media virtual assistant, internet marketing virtual assistant, and blog marketing. Currently, I'm studying SEO and would be learning about virtual events so I could offer these services soon to clients. I just love learning!

When I'm not working, I love to shop and spend time with friends. I'm also practicing to be a better cook and preparing myself from being a young entrepreneur to becoming a loving wife next year.

I hope to make friends with all of you here!
Hello Everyone,
My name is Annais and I recently started my own virtual assistant business, primarily because I hate sitting behind a desk for 9 hours and told what to do. I wanted my own hours and my own freedom. :) I previously worked in the Marketing/Administrative Assistant field for 7 years. I am interested in building business relationships as well as receiving advice, since I am new to this specific industry of virtual assistance. Please share any information regarding marketing, networking, challenges, benefits, etc. I appreciate any input.
Howdy, Annais!

Freedom is great. it's important to bake it into your business from day one. Once you let clients start telling you what hours to work, who to work with, what tasks to do, you're back to being an employee and it's tough to change.

Decide for yourself what kinds of people you'll work with, what tasks you love to do, when you'll work and what kinds of deadlines you'll work to. Set it all, communicate it clearly, and keep tight hold on the reins.

As for marketing, the best advice I can give is to have a professionally designed website (this does not mean expensive; I do sites for $500 and even less) and to get out and network IN PERSON. Yeah, in real life. Meet other human beings face to face. Be unselfishly interested in their success, and they'll return the favor.
I'm Janice St. Germain (you can call me Jan). I'm mother to 3 grown male spawn; Seth,Colin and Devon. I've been in the Virtual Assistant industry since October of 1996. However, I've been on a hiatus of sorts for the last almost two years. Now I'm baaaack, and I'm ready to rock. I'm ready to roll. I am a Virtual Assistant. Hear me ROAR!
Hello everyone,

Me in a nutshell: Virtual Assistant. Midnight artist. Clapton fanatic. Empty-nester Mom.

I am thoroughly enjoying my first year of independence as a virtual assistant, taking the plunge to follow the entrepreneurial dream after many years as a corporate marketer. I provide marketing, project management, and community management services to women owned businesses of all shapes and sizes.

At the moment, the majority of my clients are other VAs. I would like to continue growing my VA client base, where there is a good mutual fit.

Looking forward to getting to know some of the talented professionals in this community.
I am Kathy Andrews. I am a mother of three grown children all living at home with a 3 year old grandson. I am just starting out as a Virtual Transcriptionist. I am ready to start working officially -- been doing it for 13 years sporadically and now would like to do it more productively. If you can get me the audio I can transcribe it.

Nice to meet you here Kathy!  I have decided to specialize my niche area in the VA world as Web and Graphic Designer.  I feel like you!  Where are the clients asking for our help here.  I also need to be more productive.  I just keep learning new skills and code now.  I keep joining groups all over the web too!

Hi there,
I'm Becky and after over 4 years in an office management/PA position I have now gone it alone and started my own VA business. Currently working on small projects for companies and individuals in London, England I am hoping that we can bounce ideas off of each other and make our business a successful one.

I look forward to hearing from you with you ideas, tips and general chatter :)

Chana Schwartz - Founder and VA for my own Office Business Services company. I am starting this business up from scratch because I was told by my coach how I can make great usage of my skills and talents at home, while being a mother too! I am currently looking for clients. As a matter of fact, I just subcontracted for someone a few days ago by doing 5 hours of research for Business Coaches. I have over 20+ years of Office experience and skills. Being a V.A. is a wonderful way to be available for my 9 year old daughter when she comes home from school or gets sick. I love not having to commute to a job outside, then feeling overwhelmed when I get home. This is the perfect business for me!
Hi, my name is Connie Sheppard, a wife and mother of 2 adult children. We're in Ohio, wishing we were in New Mexico - or some other warm location!  I am a VA working for the last two years, after apprenticing for 6 months with Rhea Perry from Educating for Success.  I'm also a pianist and an avid scrapbooker.
