Just for giggles I checked on this domain: FIND-VIRTUAL-ASSISTANTS.COM and it was available. That is an awesome domain if you are a virtual assistant! Not bad for $7.95 either, FindVirtual.com must get a good deal on them or something..
I bought mine through yahoo. However, I purchased the .com domain until 2011 or something like that. Now that my website it built, my domain name changed to .net. Which I guess that is really not that big of dear, but why couldn't I have used my .com name? A little confusing on that, which made me think that I might should have waited until my site was being built possible? I guess I could build another web site with the .com name? Anyone have any suggestions? Glad to be a part of this group. My goodness, we have tons of stuff going on with FindVirtual that you want to be a part of all of them........lol.......it has kept me busy that is for sure. Thanks to all for all the awesome advice and suggestions that are to come.

I think the .com version is just what everyone naturally thinks of so that is usually a safer bet. Search engines also place a higher value on the .Com extension because they are highest type of TLD (Top Level Domain). Basically, .com is King.
In fact Deb, your http://youreverythingservices.com/ domain already has a Page Rank of 1 which is better than the one I reviewed for you. Might want to look into switching the domain or at least forwarding one to the other. Call yahoo and ask them how to forward a domain. Then ask them for some advice on how to do it best given your situation.
That being said .Net is valuable. What is more important is the kind of content, seo and links linking to your domain, no matter what comes after the dot.
One thing I've seen some of my clients doing is buying domains that are related to their domain, variations etc. Some people buy the .com, .org, .net and feel this is a wise investment because of the "blocking" support it will provide your brand. Basically, it eliminates the ability of a competitor trying to build a site and capitalize on your brand recognition. Also prevents people from getting confused.
Yahoo! charges a ridiculous amount for domains too. I think it's like $20 or something when it is all said and done. Domain registrars really don't differ either, they are kind of like Gas Stations so feel free to register domains at several different places if you find a good deal.
I always use www.webtasticdesigns.com.au for all of my client and personal web hosting and domain names. The prices are great and the service is excellent - finally a provider who responds to your enquiries and provides solutions! :)
Cheers

Thanks for the advice! The domains for sale on FindVirtual.com are a GREAT deal!
I buy all my domain names at DomainSite. Dot com names are $8.99US/year. The biggest benefit is that they include Google Apps, which means you can use GMail for your email services, but still have addresses like You@YourDomain.com (for instance, my primary email address, joel@bizba6.com, is really a GMail account.)
Being able to use Google's spam filters is a huge benefit. I used to get thousands of spam emails every day (yes, day) and now, I get about one a month.
I don't make any money for recommending DomainSite; I just think they're the best registrar available, and at a great price. If you'd like more info just ask.
