Our family has been homeschooling Fiona and she's getting ready to start first grade in August. Most likely her first day of school will be on the road.

We've planned a trip to Canada and won't be back until after school starts. However, we already have two of her textbooks and have talked with her teacher about meeting a few days after we get home.

Our goal in the near future is to travel while homeschooling. You can read all about our grand scheme at our Canfield of Dreams blog. We're not the first ones to do this. I've connected with a very similar family who have been successfully doing this for five years since their daughter was 5. You can read all about it at Soul Travelers 3

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this new adventure we're embarking on!

Our homeschool program starts this coming Monday while we're still here in Canada. Before we left California we already had 2 of Fiona's school books. We also have other spelling and math workbooks and access to all kinds of information on the internet. Once we get back to California in a couple of weeks there are more books and supplies waiting for us.

On Monday as school starts we'll be traveling from New Westminster BC to Surrey BC. A couple of days there, then a couple of days in Washington, another day or two in Oregon and then home. Yes, we'll be starting school while on the road. We've already got a plan for work we can do while in the car and other stuff we can do at the places we'll be staying.

Just think of how Fiona's geography skills will grow as we travel and get to see in person other places on the map. We'll let you know how it goes.

Does anyone else out there travel and homeschool?
