Hello All:

Whew! I can't believe it almost the end of October. I can't wait for Halloween to arrive and can't wait to see what visuals my fellow VAs have in store after the weekend is over =)

So after "spring" cleaning during the fall season, I encounter some memos from a client back when I was (18).

The memo reads, "Due to your age and no educational experience in the college sector of any kind, we highly doubt you are capable of performing tasks at our request and standards. However, due to your excellence in computer skills, Internet technology, and customer service experience - we will hire you on a one year trial basis. After one year, we will rectify the contract until we our satisfied with your services."

Okay, so at (18) starting my part-time VA business..I'm thinking to myself, "Geez..does age really matter if I have the skills to do a job?" At the time, I needed extra income and knew what I could do best - only to find out I would be stepping into the world of virtual assisting.

Seven years later, as I finish with a Bachelor's in Finance, Minor in Psychology, and Master's in Human Resources - I look back at the memo and laugh. I actually had lunch with the client and he mentioned the memo to me. It is funny because to this day - I still have him as one of my long-term VA clients =)

So for those of you who are worried about what others will say when you market yourself and you don't look a decent age to be in the VA business or do not have an educational background to support your particular field of expertise - hold your head up high. Skills and an excellent learning attitude will last you a long way!

Absolutely! I agree Susan, unless my age would be a problem in the reversal aspect....lol....but like you, I do what I do because it is truly my passion. All the hours that I spend marketing, researching, taking online classess and webinars, not to mention the full time job that I currently work from home and running a business, really do not seem like work at all!! I too love being in the comfort of my sweet and humble home and I am SO thankful and appreciative of what I have! So GO VA's GO!!!!
Deb :) LOVING LIFE!!

Well, I don't think my age will be a problem :-). (unless it's in the reverse!). But I am hoping that my MANY years of experience will propel me forward. I really decided to become a VA because of the skills I have and because I like being in my own comfortable home. I am truly hoping to be able to help others become more efficient and that I will be able to help their businesses prosper. No one should have to "re-invent the wheel" or take the time to learn something that is already available. Great post here and thanks for the motivation!
