Being new in the virtual assistant arena, many things have become clear to me as I meddle my way through the process of researching, writing, editing and creating my business from scratch. As I am sure many of you have encountered this or are in the process now, I would like to point out the biggest "ahha" moment I have had. Being a perfectionist is not always a good approach to building a business.
I have seen and heard several comments from VA's who recommend just getting started after a solid plan is in place. This is much easier said than done; nonetheless, true. Last week I was stressed about getting my website content perfectly written to my target audience; however, this week I have a new approach. Just get it done so more consistent work can resume. That's it.
Since making this decision, my contact list has grown, my marketing plan is under way and my website is not sitting stagnant. So, my point is that the VA's who give advise know what they are talking about and their advice should not be taken with a grain of salt. No matter your personality type remember Nike's slogan and follow it, "Just do it" and you will be headed in the right direction. Good luck to each of you!

I completely agree! I'm mentoring an aspiring VA right now and that's my advice to her. Don't wait for the perfect business name, cards, or website. Just get going. I've found this business is constantly evolving anyhow. So you may spend all kinds of time getting everything perfect to find out you already need to make some changes to grow with the times.

Of course that doesn't mean just jumping in without knowing what you're doing. You need a solid foundation of knowing the basics of how to run a business - because you're no longer an employee; you are a business owner!

Hi Melodee,
Thank you for your comment. Perfectionism can be a good quality, but when one lets it determine their actions it can get in the way of progression and productivity. I have to constantly keep my perfectionism in check. =)

I so agree, Rikki! I've wasted so much time over the years waiting to get something "just so" before putting it out there. Perfectionism is way overrated :-)
