Every VA looks for their "Unique Selling Point" (USP).
My friend suggested that I look into Localization - 'transcribing' US English into UK English as she (as a qualified translator in several different languages) has been approached by companies in the US asking for this service and she thought it would be something I could do that would interest me.
I have to admit that before I really began to look into this subject seriously I didn't realise quite how different the two 'languages' were!
I am reading a fascinating book called, "Divided by a Common Language" by Christopher Davies. My friend also suggests I study Fowler's to help me get the grammar correct too.
I am really glad my friend suggested this USP. It has made me far more aware of my own language. I have to admit the last time I looked at sentence construction was when I was at school, which is many (many) years ago!!! This also gives me something quite different from my "day job" to do which also will not be a bad thing! I have no idea how much work I will pick up with this skill but I think it is certainly worth a go!
Has anyone had experience of Localization who could give me any tips?
